Josh Peters is a contemporary abstract artist whose paintings explore the interplay of color, texture, movement and form. Working primarily on canvas, he builds richly layered compositions through an intuitive, iterative process in which bold gestures, unexpected color relationships and spontaneous marks accumulate into dynamic visual environments.

Self-taught, Peters approaches painting as an ongoing conversation between intention and chance. His work draws inspiration from the patina of time-worn materials, chipped paint, and the vibrant, often overlooked colors of everyday life. Balancing spontaneity with a sensitivity to structure and rhythm, his paintings invite viewers to discover their own associations within the work.

Originally developing his practice through large-scale paintings created on unstretched canvas, Peters continues to explore the expressive possibilities of scale, surface, and material. His work has been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and internationally. His practice also includes print collaborations with London-based Drool and Make-Ready Editions, expanding his work's reach to new audiences. Peters works from his studio in Portland, Oregon.
